Christmas Traditions by Form Five

Form Five don’t always agree on everything but we are definitely unanimous in ourr verdict that Christmas in RJS is our favourite time of year. We adore putting on our plays and love all the seasonal art and handwork we produce.

We are also very aware of all the little traditions that make the atmosphere in school magical for the month of December. Beautiful fresh advent wreaths on our red doors greet us each morning, Santa and Rudolf check their lists carefully in the hallway, a Danish Advent candle burns on the landing, a most exotic advent calendar which features a condor and a guinea pig is opened each morning in December by the youngest children in Assembly, and there are a number of beautifully decorated Christmas trees dotted around the school. Then each morning in December our normal hymns are replaced by Christmas carols.

For our assembly this week we looked at the origins of some of these traditions and told the other pupils about them. We also said a big thank to all of ‘Santa’s helpers’ who create such a wonderful atmosphere for us.
