The RJS Gym was a sea of green this morning as the whole school gathered to celebrate our annual Maidin na Gaeilge. All the children had spent weeks working very hard preparing their words and costumes for a wonderful array of performances.
Kindergarten A got the morning underway with a beautiful rendition of “Téidí Beag Álainn” followed by Kindergarten B who performed “Tar Isteach sa Ghairdín” agus “Babaí Cangarú”. Their teachers did a fantastic job and the children sang out beautifully clearly for all to enjoy.
Rang a hAon followed with a lovely amhrán “An Hooky Pooky” agus dán “Suas san Aer.” Next came Rang a Dó with a dráma beag íontach about the ‘Three Bears.’ Rang a Trí produced a wonderful lively performance of the ABBA amhrán classic”Mamma Mia” as Gaeilge. Rang a Ceathair mixed cúpla amhráin with a fantastic “X Factor” show, complete with Simon Cowell and all the other judges. They were followed by Rang a Cúig who sang “Cáilín na Gaillimhe” agus “Trasna na dTonnta” and presented a dráma beag about “Na Laethanta Saoire.” The morning’s performances concluded with the traditional “Seó Faisin le Rang a Sé,” which included appearances from the Mr. Men, One Direction, two chocolate bars, Donald Trump, John Travolta, four Disney Princess and two “Beliebers”!
We finished off the morning by standing together for “Amhrán na bhFiann” before Mrs. Silke gave her thanks and congratulations to all involved in putting on the morning’s show. Special mention must go to Mrs. Derham, who was our Irish ‘MC’ and especially to Múinteoir Eilís who worked so hard teaching all the classes from Forms One to Six, coming up with lots of great ideas and enabling the children to put on such a successful and memorable celebration of our native language – comhghairdeas!
